Weekly – Beginning January 16
(suggested ages 7-12)
A solid foundation into the world of dance, this class will accommodate the skill level of the students to provide a fun overview of tap and ballet. Half of the class time will focus on tap and integrating new tap steps into dance routines using edifying music. Tap is a creative and exciting genre of dance that stimulates the brain as much as the feet! The other half of the class will allow time to practice the fundamentals of ballet and ballet choregraphy. Ballet has components of flexibility and grace but also exercise strength and stamina. This class is designed for students aged 7-12.
2020 Spring Dance Recital – The students in this class will perform in a recital at the end of the semester, which will use a costume for an extra fee.
- Students should wear dancewear, such as leotards with tights and/or skirts, yoga pants, etc. Dress is comfortable and modest without being in “baggy” clothing that might make it difficult for the instructor to critique movement.
- Ballet shoes should be pink for female students and black for male students for the recital (either is acceptable for practice). They should be leather or like leather, not house-shoe type shoes.
- Black flat tap shoes.
Hair: Hair needs to be worn out of the face, in ponytail/bun or pulled half up.
Instructor: Samantha Shoptaw – Starting at age 6, Samantha has trained in ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, and lyrical. Her experience in dance began at Shannon’s School of Dance, where she also taught tap, ballet, jazz, and tumbling for 10 years. She has long dreamed of being able to mesh her passion for dance with her love for Jesus.
